LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Nothing is far away in the quaint city of Adelaide. The airport is a 15-minute drive from the CBD, where you will find the Hilton Hotel Adelaide overlooking Victoria Square with its stunning Three River Fountain.

It is a one-minute walk to the famous Adelaide Central Market and a comfortable 10-minute stroll to Rundle Street Mall. Directly outside the hotel is a tram stop, where you can catch a free tram to Glenelg Beach or to most of the tourist highlights in the city.

SLUMBER

My room, which I stayed in for three nights, is a comfy corner room on the executive level. Although it’s not slick and as modern as the new luxury hotels that are sprouting up around the city, it does have a cosy, homely feel to it.

The carpet is a dark midnight blue with a grey mosaic tile design. Caramel timbered panelling and furnishings add a touch of warmth to the pale magnolia walls.

An inviting executive room at the Adelaide Hilton.

The king bed is wonderfully inviting and incredibly comfortable. The lighting is great in this room, as you can choose from mood lighting of warm glowing lamps or bright ceiling lights if you have a need for clarity.

The bathroom is spacious, with separate bathtub and shower recess with rain-shower head or normal shower head. The walls, like the bedroom, are magnolia and sandy-toned marble tiles dress the wet areas.

THE CLUB

You will find the club lounge on Level 16, with great views over the city. It is a modest-sized lounge, furnished with tables and chairs rather than lounges.

The executive lounge has great views over the city.

It’s open daily for breakfast and evening drinks. Pre-dinners come with a nice array of antipasti and cheese. Friday night was French Champagne night, with chilled glasses of Veuve Clicquot on offer – free of charge.

FOOD

The Brasserie Restaurant is on the lobby level and is open for breakfast and dinner daily, with lunch available Monday to Friday. The Brasserie prides itself on bringing fresh local produce to guests.

I sampled the buffet breakfast and was pleased to see there was a good selection of hot and cold goodies. I particularly enjoyed the freshly squeezed juice bar and the pork sausages were fantastic.BARS

Collins Bar is a comfy retreat, where you can enjoy a cocktail or a shot of your favourite whisky. It’s open Monday to Saturday. If you are looking for some background music on Friday and Saturday night, the resident DJ mixes some cool jazz and sexy soul.

Catch some cool tunes at the Collins Bar.

The Lobby bar is a great place to sit and watch the comings and goings of the hotel. It has a varied drink menu and there’s a great little snack menu to work your way through. It’s open from late afternoon until midnight daily.

EXTRAS

I love that the Hilton Hotel Adelaide welcomes pets. You do, of course, have to pay a bit extra but it’s worth it to keep your furry little friend with you. You must pay a $500 deposit in case of damage but if your pet is well behaved, your deposit will be returned in full.

Another great extra with this hotel is its outdoor running track. It’s great for women travellers who are a bit nervous about running around a city on their own. There is also a heated outdoor pool and tennis courts.

THE VERDICT

If you are into slick new hotels with all the fancy gadgets, the Hilton Hotel Adelaide may not be for you. But if you are looking for a comfy hotel with a great position and friendly staff, you can’t go wrong here.
